| Jazz Man 8, 9, & 10 originally appeared with white labels with red printing and were later reissued with green labels. Jazz Man 16 & 17 only appeared with green labels. Jazz Man (E) B8 & B9 were issued by Tempo Record Society with yellow labels. Special Jazz Man and Jazz Man (E) LP were limited by 100 copies. Jazz Man 17 was coupled with Hot House Rag by Wally Rose ( master 17 ). The Folkways FJ numbers are re-packings of the earlier FP series with the same notes on the cover. The Mandadisc 1 was issued by Mike Hazeldine in 100 copies, in 1961. MLB133 as Down By The River on Jazz Man (E). | ||
| MLB133 was recorded as "I Ain't Gonna Study War No More" but issued as "Down By The Riverside". | ||
| MLB134 was recorded as "Those Draftin Blues" but issued as "Storyville Blues". | ||
| MLB136 was recorded as "Old Time Blues" but issued as "Bunk's Blues". | ||
| Prior to the Bunk recordings, Jazz Man had issued several sessions with Lu Watters' band, which finished with master number MLB131 (Muskrat Ramble). A further session was recorded in april 1942; Jazz Man intended to issue three titles of this session, using master numbers MLB132, 133 and 134. The session notes of the Bunk recordings clearly state the opening title "Yes Lord I'm Crippled" (the issued version) as master number MLB135, thus leaving 132,133 and 134 open for Lu Watters. These numbering continues through to the last title. After the Bunk session Jazz Man cancelled the idea of the three Watters numbers and renumbered the Bunk recordings to MLB131 and on. | ||
| Jazz Man (unlike Bill Russell) never gave master numbers to every take, only to the issued titles. Therefore their “master numbers” are really pressing matrix numbers. | ||
| Jazz Man limited edition Nos. 1 and 2 was limited to 50 numbered copies (all were signed by Bunk Johnson), Special Jazz Man and Jazz Man (E) LP to 100 copies. The Bunk Johnson Appreciation Society usually issued records under the “Purist” label, but the issue of this session was as “Jazz Man”. | ||
